Artist Open callThe Space Between – Our Creative Learning Exchange

We are seeking applications from four Scottish-based, and, in particular, North-East artists/creative practitioners to facilitate a breakout workshop inspired by the theme of the space between as part of our creative learning exchange – The Space Between on Friday 26 September 2025 at the Universal Hall (Findhorn).

The Space Between is a Creative Learning Exchange focused on the often-overlooked pauses in the creative process—moments of silence, reflection, space and incubation that make creativity thrive.

Celebrating the quiet, reflective moments in the creative process, the spaces between that create depth and perspective andhow gaps between actions can lead to deeper artistic insight and innovation.

The event invites artists, creative practitioners, and community members to exchange experiences, spark new ideas and contribute to a more connected and vibrant creative culture.

The day will include a programme of keynote presentations and a series of breakout workshops facilitated by artists and creative practitioners from Moray and beyond.

We are particularly interested in exploring this theme relating to creative practice, engagement, access to the arts, environment, creative placemaking, wellbeing and being well.

‘The object isn’t to make art, it’s to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable’  Robert Henri, Painter and Teacher.

‘The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between’  Miles Davis

‘Creativity is about the spaces between the notes, where the Adjacent Possible resides. It is the pregnant pause, the indrawn breath, the vanishingly thin moment when the world could take a slightly different path, the knife-edge of otherness.’ An Artist’s Journey – Nancy Hillis

‘In The Space Between we are open and receptive.  Collectively holding space for each other’s voices, practice and experience. Opening the corridor towards connection, to where our pathways cross and may support, harmonise or resonate with each other.’  Kate MacKay
