Pages by the Sea

Partnering with the National Theatre of Scotland to present filmmaker Danny Boyle’s Pages Of The Sea project on Armistice Day 2018.

Findhorn Bay Arts partnered with National Theatre of Scotland to deliver filmmaker Danny Boyle’s Pages Of The Sea project at Roseisle Beach on the morning of Sunday 11 November 2018.

Commissioned by 1418 NOW to mark the centenary of Armistice Day, Pages of the Sea was delivered across Scotland by National Theatre of Scotland, with Findhorn Bay Arts working as a regional partner.

The portrait of Scottish War Poet Captain Charles Hamilton Sorley was made in the sand, designed by Sand In Your Eye and created by local artist James Chitty and a team of volunteers. Over 800 people gathered as the tide washed away the image as well as silhouettes in the sand, personal messages and handwritten stones.

‘A wound in Time’, the specially commissioned poem by Carol Ann Duffy, was read out across the beach with touching movements led by Ruby Worth. The Findhorn Coastal Rowing Club and Burghead Coastal Rowing Club rowed into shore and a group of our local Air Cadets led a poignant 2 minute silence at 11am.
