Situated in the west of the Moray Speyside region lies the Forres area perched on the Bay of Findhorn. In 2015 the Forres area won a Creative Place Award recognising the abundance of creative activity, cultural events and destinations that the area is home to. The award was led by Findhorn Bay Arts and we continue to work to highlight and promote the Forres area as an all year round creative and cultural destination for locals, visitors and tourists to explore, experience and enjoy.

Brodie Castle NTS
Brodie Castle is the ancestral home of Clan Brodie and now managed by National Trust for Scotland. The castle boasts an outstanding art collection, a magnificent library, beautiful walks and a new Playful Garden. Brodie Castle also hosts events, outdoor theatre, music, family days, creative workshops and fairs throughout the year.
Produced by Findhorn Bay Arts, Culture Day Forres is a one-day cultural extravaganza free for all the family to enjoy as part of the biennial Findhorn Bay Festival. Culture Day will return on Saturday 29th September 2018 with a carnivalesque explosion of art, music, film and dance, talks and tours and much, much more.
Founded in 1871, The Falconer Museum is a five star visitor destination set in the heart of Forres. The museum houses a wealth of local and world treasures as well as hosting creative family sessions, talks, specialist exhibits and events throughout the year.
Findhorn Bay Festival
The biennial Findhorn Bay Festival is a spectacular six-day celebration of arts and culture the last week of September showcasing artists of national and international renown. Set in unexpected spaces and scenic locations, the Festival brings a vibrant mix of theatre, performance, music, dance, visual arts, exhibitions, talks, tours, and more as well as Culture Day Forres – a one day cultural extravaganza free for all the family to enjoy.
Findhorn Heritage Centre & Icehouse
Discover the fishing and nautical past of Findhorn at the Findhorn Heritage Centre & Icehouse. Learn about the lost port of Findhorn, the class yacht, and sea trading before exploring the 150 year old underground arched chamber Icehouse which was used to store tons of ice.
An independent pottery and studio based in Findhorn inspired by the colours and textures of the sea, sand, moors, forests and beautiful gardens of the Forres area. The Findhorn Pottery creates unique pieces of pottery by hand using natural ceramic glazes inspired by the surrounding environment.
Funky Furbish is home to an artisan up-cycling movement creating unique home furbishings from pre-owned items and salvaged materials. Think funky and industrial style, shabby chic and chalk paint, reclaimed wood and driftwood art all under one roof.
Glasgow School of Art, Highlands & Islands
Located just outside Forres in Blairs Steading on the Altyre Estate, Glasgow School of Art Highlands & Islands is a research and post-graduate teaching centre for international excellence in creativity and innovation delivering a Winter School, Masters and PhD programmes.
Jonathan Wheeler is a watercolour artist living and working from his studio in Findhorn. Jonathan’s work is inspired by majestic Scottish landscapes and Scottish castles.
Kinloss Abbey was founded 1150 and today the remains stand as a designated scheduled ancient monument. The Abbey was home to the largest Cistercian Monastery in the North of Scotland and is steeped in history and awe. The site is open year for visitors to explore.
Originally built as a model farm in the 1920’s, Logie Steading’s attractive sandstone buildings now house an enthusiastic group of individual businesses including an acclaimed cafe, artisan makers, and retailers with specialist knowledge and niche products. Logie also plays host to pop-up events, markets and outdoor theatre throughout the year.
Moray Art Centre
Moray Art Centre offers a year round programme of local and international exhibitions, events, classes and arts residencies from it’s bespoke eco-designed gallery space in Findhorn. You can also relax in the Creative Lounge, browse the impressive art library, and shop for art supplies and local crafts.
Surrounded by countryside at Marcassie Farm, Rafford, Naturally Useful hand make beautiful willow and felted products that enliven homes and are pleasing to the soul. Traditional craft skills are kept alive and old ways are passed onto new hands a regular workshops. Naturally Useful hold open days every Thursday and the third Saturday of the month where you can see the studio and purchase items for sale.
The Nicholson Gallery over looks the Market Green in Forres. The gallery and exhibition rooms promote some of the finest local artists, offering a range of open and limited edition prints. As well as holding regular exhibitions the gallery hosts creative sessions from poetry sessions and writing workshops to painting courses and wine tasting evenings.
Orchard Road Studios
Orchard Road Studios is a shared work space for eleven visual artists based in Forres. The space houses a small gallery and hosts regular exhibitions, artist talks and exhibitions. A micro-residency programme is also run from the studio space in collaboration with The Red Carvan.
Piping at Forres
Forres has been home to the European Pipe Band Championships since 2013. Returning for a sixth and final year on Saturday 30 June 2018, the day will see thousands of pipers and drummers from far and wide compete across a number of grades in four arenas creating a stunning spectacle of sound and colours.
You can regenerate old and recycled materials into new and beautiful handmade items at artist led creative upcycling workshops based at Moray Wastebusters just outside of Forres. You can get hands on and learn new crafting skills as professional artists teach you the techniques to create your very own little pieces of art to take home. Make. Create. Regenerate.
Rise Dance Festival
Dance North presents the Rise Dance Festival, a biennial contemporary dance and performance festival based at Universal Hall, Findhorn. Featuring an unforgettable programme of artists from across the UK, Rise is imaginative and engaging, sometimes tender, sometimes provocative, often funny and always entertaining.
Sporran Nation is a a bespoke leather craft and leather inking studio based in Forres. You can visit the studio by prior appointment or try your hand at making a unique leather item during evening and weekend courses run by professional artists and maker Jennifer Cantwell.
The Red Caravan
The Red Caravan is nestled underneath an apple tree in a secluded and spacious area of a private garden in the heart of Forres town centre. It offers a unique accommodation space from where residents can use Orchard Road Studio next door to complete a self directed creative and artistic residency.
Universal Hall hosts a variety of events and performances throughout the year including contemporary music, Scottish traditional music, classical evenings with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Opera, dramatic performances from many touring theatre companies and a range of comedy, dance, film and children’s entertainment.
