Window Wanderland Forres

A magical artwork trail in Forres to celebrate LOVE is… over Valentine’s weekend.

Window Wanderland is an award-winning, COVID-safe project, which provides toolkits for communities around the world to set up their own, magical, illuminated art trails. It brings communities together, reduces social isolation, and inspires creativity as well as transforming streets into magical outdoor galleries.

We are inviting households, families, businesses, and schools to create their very own window-based artworks and be part of Forres’ first Window Wanderland from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 February around the theme of Love is…!

You might consider what love means to you; whether it’s fun family moments, friendship, being part of your local community in a meaningful way, supporting someone in need, your beloved pets, what you love about living in your town, or it could be caring for the environment, a plant or garden, the Moray coast or nature around you.

You don’t need to be artistic to be part of Window Wanderland … simple or spectacular… anything goes… as long as it’s family-friendly.

Window Wanderland aims to:

  • inspire communities to be creative and express themselves through the arts;
  • enhance community citizenship and a sense of belonging;
  • develop community links between residents, schools, parents, and businesses.

Taking part is FREE and everyone of ALL ages are welcome to participate. You can use the windows of your flat, house, business, school, nursery, car, camper van, shop. It doesn’t even have to be windows, you can also use your front door, the front of your house, your front garden.

Watch this short film to get the idea.
Click here for further information and to register to take part as a window-maker.

To create your display you will need to have:

  • black sugar paper
  • tracing paper
  • sticky tape
  • coloured tissue paper
  • craft knives (for adult use only) and scissors
  • a pencil

You can also be creative with the materials you already have in your house.

We have a small budget to supply materials to schools or families who may otherwise not be able to take part. Please get in touch with us by email at to see if we can support you.

Watch our helpful guide to help you make an eye catching window display.

Once your participation is confirmed you will receive:

  • an online video tutorial with some crafty creative techniques;
  • a link to an image gallery for inspiration.

Once you register as a window-maker for Window Wanderland Forres, you will be pinned onto the map with all the other community members taking part. You will then be part of an illuminated window art trail in your neighbourhood!

Spread the word and encourage your neighbours to get involved too – and create an illuminated window art trail in your street or neighbourhood! You can do this by sharing our event on social media or sharing our flyers in your neighbourhood or workplace.

If you simply want to view the art trail, the map will be made downloadable by 9am on Friday 12 February so that you can print it out or view on your phone to follow the trail once the sun sets!
