As part of the Year of Natural Scotland 2013, Vision Mechanics constructed, seeded and suspended giant heads in 11 sites across Scotland.
In April of that year Findhorn Bay Arts brought the Giants to Sanquhar Woods in Forres for a programme of outdoor activities, curated and facilitated by Elemental Community Arts and hosted by Forres Community Woodland Trust.
Giants in the Forest culminated with a night time, site-specific, story walk performance of Dark Wood as part of Culture Day 2013.
Dark Wood was created and directed by Symon MacIntyre of Vision Mechanics, and featured local storytellers Margot Henderson, Peter Vallance and Elly Crichton, plus the art installations made by local children and families who took part in Elemental Community Arts programme of art activities.
Artists Celia Smith and Lara Moon created a magical Unicorn and gateway, all combining to make a very magical Dark Wood.
If you should be walking through Sanquhar Woods, look out – the Giants in the Forest can still be found.
