Overview of the 1st Findhorn Bay Festival.

In September 2014, Findhorn Bay Arts staged the 1st Findhorn Bay Arts Festival. 

Held over five days, the Festival presented an extensive programme of local, national and international artists, and included theatre, dance, literature, music, comedy, events for families and young people, talks and tours. 

It all made for a vibrant and dynamic mix of events, with historic monuments, natural surroundings, cafés, existing venues, churches, museums and castles providing the canvas for a carnival of creativity.

Festival highlights included Macbeth: The Remix, a specially commissioned piece which celebrated both Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the real Macbeth – King of Alba.

Key impacts:

  • Over 65 free and ticketed events held all around Findhorn Bay area, including Forres, Findhorn, Brodie and Kinloss.
  • Over 12,700 spectators attended, with 56% of the audience from Moray, 39% of attendees from the rest of the UK and 5% from overseas.
  • The Festival generated a total economic contribution of £648,600, including a total visitor spend of £400,000 and a reinvestment of £199,000 from the Festival’s event budget.
